In a step toward promoting nature-based tourism, the Karnataka government is set to launch a wildlife safari in the buffer zone of Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, located along the Karnataka-Goa border.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press event organized by the Belagavi Media Association at the Department of Information, Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan outlined the proposal.
“The safari will operate solely in the sanctuary’s buffer zone, away from the core ecologically sensitive areas,” clarified DC Roshan. “It will utilize a short, pre-existing route to minimize any environmental impact.”
Emphasizing the state’s commitment to sustainable tourism, he added, “Only electric vehicles will be allowed, ensuring a zero-emission experience that supports our ecological goals.”
The initiative also has an educational aim. “The safari is meant to offer visitors—particularly youth—a direct experience of forest ecosystems and the importance of wildlife conservation,” the DC added.
