The district administration has denied the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) permission to observe Black Day during the Rajyotsava celebrations scheduled for November 1.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan announced the rejection of the MES application for permission to hold Black Day in Belagavi on Wednesday. In a meeting with officials on Tuesday, he emphasized that the Rajyotsava celebrations in Belagavi will be a significant event and instructed them to make the necessary preparations. He noted that the State festival coincides with Deepavali and urged efforts to accommodate both celebrations.
Each year, MES leaders organize a bicycle rally and a public demonstration to voice their dissatisfaction over Belagavi’s inclusion in Karnataka. The local political group argues that Belagavi is a Marathi-majority region and advocates for its merger with Maharashtra, citing the principle of linguistic reorganization of states.
Typically, MES members invite leaders from Maharashtra to address these gatherings. Prominent figures such as Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, and Shambhuraj Desai have participated in previous rallies.
This year, MES leaders plan to invite Border Disputes Committee member and legislator Dhairyasheel Mane to Belagavi.
The upcoming Rajyotsava celebrations will be distinct, featuring flower showers on the statue of Rani Channamma. A procession of tableaux and performances by folk artists are also planned. Kannada advocates and leaders from various organizations fighting for land and language rights will be honored during the event.
Cultural programs will be held at a public function at the District Stadium in Nehru Nagar.
