A tragic accident occurred during the Ganesh immersion procession in Belagavi when a devotee was run over by a tractor. The incident took place around 10 a.m. on Wednesday on the Kapileshwar flyover-Patil Galli.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Sadanand B. Chavan-Patil, a resident of Patil Galli, Yellur-Sulga, Belagavi. The procession, which was in its second day, was making its way from Kapileshwar flyover toward Kapileshwar, transporting the public Ganesh idol on trucks and tractors.
As the procession moved forward, a tractor carrying the idol lost control while descending the flyover. Sadanand, caught off guard by the out-of-control vehicle, was struck and run over by the tractor. He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the civil hospital, but despite medical efforts, he passed away. Another worker, 56-year-old Vijay Rajagol from Tegin Galli, Vadgaon, also sustained injuries in the accident.
