City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has taken a tough stand against individuals openly carrying deadly weapons, warning that strict legal action will follow, including the initiation of rowdy sheets.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Commissioner Borase stated, “We have observed that some miscreants, including minors, are openly moving around with dangerous weapons such as knives and swords. This will not be allowed. A special task force has been constituted and will begin operations from Thursday.”
The special team, consisting of five to six officers, will patrol in a vehicle, targeting those suspected of carrying weapons. “Anyone found in possession of such weapons will be booked under the Arms Act, and a rowdy sheet will be opened. These individuals will also be required to report to the police during festivals and holidays,” he emphasized.
Referring to the recent stabbing at the Central Bus Stand, Borase confirmed that minors were involved in an altercation over a window seat. “Two of the accused have been arrested. The incident began with verbal abuse and escalated to a knife attack. Our team, led by DCP Rohan Jagadish, arrested them within 10 hours,” he said.
He further mentioned that the injured student, Maz, underwent surgery and is now stable. “It is alarming that such a violent act was committed over a trivial issue. We are investigating the backgrounds of the accused and will ensure appropriate punishment,” Borase added.
The police have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards violence and have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity immediately.
