In a tragic incident near Hirebandi village in Gokak taluk, two individuals allegedly died by suicide inside an auto rickshaw. The deceased have been identified as Raghavendra Narayan Jadhav (28) and Ranjita Adiveppa Chaubari (25), both residents of Munavalli village in Savadatti taluk.
According to family sources, the duo was in a long-term relationship. It is suspected that Ranjita’s recent engagement to another man, arranged by her parents, may have driven them to take the extreme step. Passersby discovered the couple hanging inside the vehicle, with their legs folded, on Tuesday morning. Police suspect the incident occurred on Monday night.
Raghavendra’s brother, Somnath, told the media that their family was unaware of his brother’s relationship with Ranjita. “Raghavendra left for work with his rickshaw as usual on Monday but didn’t return home. On Tuesday, we were informed by the police. It’s difficult for us to accept that he died by suicide,” he said, urging authorities to probe the incident from all possible angles.
Inspector Kiran Mohite from Gokak rural police station visited the site and registered a case of unnatural death.
