In Belgaum, an incident occurred where 41 people fell ill after consuming borewell water. Over the past week, residents have been experiencing fever, vomiting, and dysentery, leading to an increase in hospital admissions. The situation has worsened in Savadatti taluk, causing growing concern among the local population.
The issue is particularly severe in the area surrounding the Veerabhadreshwar temple. Rain has contaminated the water, turning it green and unsafe to drink. Those who consume the water have been experiencing weakness. Of the 41 people hospitalized, three are in critical condition and have been admitted to Belgaum District Hospital and Bailahongala Taluk Hospital.
Treatment for the affected individuals is ongoing. Doctors have advised the public to exercise caution and ensure water is properly boiled before consumption. Savadatti Taluk Panchayat Executive Yashwanth Kumar stated that the situation is worsening, prompting swift action. Water samples from village borewells have been sent for inspection, and drinking water is now being supplied to the village via tankers.
The problem has escalated around the Veerabhadreshwar temple area. According to local residents, borewell water is diverted to an overhead tank and then supplied to homes through pipelines. However, the incident occurred because sewage water mixed with the water flowing through the pipelines.
