The winter session of the State Legislature is set to take place at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi for 10 days, starting December 9, as per the official schedule announced by the government. Assembly Speaker UT Khadar and Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti recently visited the venue to review preparations for the session.
Key issues, including the five guarantees and their impact on developmental funds, are expected to dominate discussions during the session. Sources indicate that the MUDA site allotment issue, though waning, could also be revisited by the Opposition.
On Tuesday, Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan stated that the district administration and police are making comprehensive arrangements to ensure the session’s smooth conduct. Various committees have been established to handle transportation, accommodation, food, and maintenance of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for coordination among all government departments to ensure the session’s success.
For the 10-day event, hotels, resorts, lodges, and guest houses in and around Belagavi will be reserved to accommodate visiting guests.
Celebration of 1924 Congress Plenary Centenary
The Deputy Commissioner also announced events on December 26 and 27 to commemorate the centenary of the 1924 Congress Plenary, presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi. The district administration plans to enhance and beautify Veerasoudha, the memorial at Tilakwadi where the historic plenary was held.
Additionally, year-long celebrations will be organized at Veerasoudha and other locations in Belagavi, concluding on October 2 next year. The memorial of freedom fighter Gangadhar Rao Deshpande, who played a key role in bringing the Congress Plenary to Belagavi in 1924, will also be developed at Kanabargi in the district.
