Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the newly built Sangolli Rayanna Museum at Nandagad, near Khanapur in Belagavi district, on Monday. The museum was constructed at the historic site associated with the life and sacrifice of the revolutionary hero Sangolli Rayanna.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Sri Niranjananand Puri Swami of Kanaka Gurupeeth, and several state ministers attended the ceremony. District in-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Ministers Shivaraj Thangadagi and Lakshmi Hebbalkar, along with Congress MLAs from Belagavi district, were also present.
Minister Shivaraj Thangadagi had visited Nandagad on Sunday to review the preparations for the event. Members of the State Guarantees Implementation Committee, including H.M. Revanna and MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, were present during the inspection and interacted with officials. The Minister had instructed officers to ensure that all arrangements were completed properly. Mr. Hattiholi said that Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar had arranged food for all attendees.
According to the official schedule, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah arrived at Sambra Airport in Belagavi from Bengaluru by a special flight at 11.15 am. From there, he travelled by helicopter to Nandagad village. The inauguration ceremony began at 12 noon. After the event, the Chief Minister proceeded to Badami in the Bagalkot district.
All preparations had been completed at Nandagad, the martyrdom site of Sangolli Rayanna. A large turnout of people was witnessed for the ceremony. The museum is expected to serve as an important centre to showcase Rayanna’s legacy and is likely to develop into a key tourist attraction in the state in the coming days.
