A delegation from the Belagavi City Corporation has returned from a study tour in Indore, ranked India’s cleanest city, with fresh ideas to upgrade the city’s waste management and sanitation systems. The officials are now looking to adopt several Indore-style practices, particularly leveraging the existing Command & Control Center to track and regulate waste disposal in real time.
Mayor Mangesh Pawar is expected to call a meeting with the Health Department soon to finalize discussions and decisions. A proposal to integrate the Command & Control Center into waste management operations will shortly be sent to the Smart City Department. As Smart City MD Shubha B. also holds the role of Municipal Commissioner, the plan is likely to advance quickly.
Belagavi corporators had earlier toured Indore in October, followed by another visit by the municipal health department officials on November 16. The teams reviewed Indore’s sanitation ecosystem, including waste segregation, construction debris recycling, CNG generation, and the integrated Command & Control Center that manages citywide cleanliness.
Belagavi already has its own Command & Control Center, and officials believe it can be utilized more effectively to enhance city cleanliness. Preparations are also being made to set up a waste sorting unit and begin processing construction waste, projects that have been on hold.
Five solid waste management initiatives under the Smart City Mission are expected to be launched soon, giving a boost to the city’s cleanliness efforts.
