Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Monday said that a discussion would soon be held with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy regarding the proposal to equip all state-run bus stands and long-route buses with CCTV cameras for enhanced security.
Speaking to the media after chairing a North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) progress review meet, Jarkiholi noted that similar systems are already in place at Bengaluru bus terminals. “We’ll take up the matter with Minister Ramalinga Reddy and arrive at a decision on implementing CCTV coverage in all stations,” he added.
When asked about BJP MP Jagadish Shettar’s criticism over not being invited to the meeting despite central funds of ₹100 crore being sanctioned for Yallamma Temple’s development, Jarkiholi responded, “He’s not a member of the Yallamma Temple Development Authority, which is why he wasn’t invited.”
NWKRTC chairman Bharama Gowda (Raju) Kage, who was also present, stated that approval has been granted for procuring 300 buses, which will be allocated in phases based on demand in different units.
He further said that while an earlier order had sanctioned the hiring of 2,814 staff, the Finance Department has presently cleared recruitment for 1,000 posts. “Efforts are on to fill the remaining vacancies as well,” he confirmed.
