A woman died, and two others sustained serious injuries following a boiler explosion at a food processing facility in Chikkatti, located on the outskirts of Athani town in Belgaum district, on Tuesday.
The boiler at Priya Exports’ facility exploded, causing damage to the walls of the boiler room. A female worker died from her injuries, while two others sustained severe injuries.
Shobha Theli has been identified as the deceased. The explosion, suspected to result from excessive boiler pressure, was powerful, leading to the collapse of the factory walls.
Priya Exports, specializing in maize polishing for export, is jointly owned by Athani MLA Laxman Savadi and a businessman from Sangli. The injured persons were transported to hospitals in Athani and Miraj, Maharashtra, for medical treatment.
