Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) have filed a police complaint against BJP MLA Abhay Patil, accusing him of insulting the state of Karnataka during an event in Belagavi on January 8.
KRV coordinator Deepak Gudaganatti lodged the complaint at Tilakwadi police station, alleging that Patil invited Shivendra Raje Bhosale, the Public Works Minister of Maharashtra, to unveil the Sambhaji Maharaj statue in Angol, Belagavi.
According to the complaint, the event did not follow state protocol, as Karnataka ministers and local leaders were excluded, despite government funds being used to construct the podium and install the statue. The gathering, including Bhosale, reportedly raised pro-Maharashtra slogans during the ceremony, which, Gudaganatti claims, insulted the Karnataka government and its culture.
The complaint further alleges that the frequent visits of Maharashtra leaders contribute to linguistic divisions and foster hatred based on language. Patil, the complaint states, is responsible for disrupting peace and law and order in the city.
Gudaganatti and other KRV members also met Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohan Jagadeesh, submitting a memorandum calling for action against the MLA.
