A 30-year-old woman riding pillion on a bike died after being struck from behind by a mini-cab at Basaveshwara Circle on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Sheeba Wasim Inamdar, a resident of Babal Galli, Anagola. “Sheeba, along with another rider, was returning home with two children from school when the mini canter hit them from behind. Sheeba succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. One of the children sustained minor injuries,” police said. A case has been registered at the South Traffic Police Station.
Driver Arrested for Hit-and-Run in Ashthe
Marihal police on Sunday arrested a goods vehicle driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident on the Belgaum–Gokak road in Ashthe village.
The accused, Sanjeevakumar Mallinath Jidage of Tadola village in Aland taluk, Kalaburagi district, had reportedly struck pedestrian Mahadev Lohar (82) on Saturday night around 8 p.m.
He fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle near Siddheshwar Temple, about 1 km from the spot. “Based on local inputs, we traced and arrested the driver within a day,” said Marihal police.
A case has also been registered against the vehicle owner, Honagada Shankar Parasuche.
