Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the newly built city transport bus stand in Belgaum, constructed at a cost of ₹49.20 crore under the Belgaum Smart City project. The facility is expected to handle nearly 96,000 passengers daily with modern amenities.
Speaking at the event, the CM highlighted that the state’s energy initiatives have secured global recognition. He noted that in the past two and a half years, over 10,000 appointments have been made in transport organizations, and more than 215 awards have been received. The Shakti Yojana, which has issued 565.48 crore free tickets for women worth ₹14,456 crore, has entered both the Golden Book of World Records and the International Book of World Records.
The bus stand, jointly funded by the Centre and State (50% each), has been built on 2 acres and 19 guntas. Additionally, an electric bus unit has been set up in Belgaum at a cost of ₹24 crore over 5 acres and 5 guntas, also with 50% central and state grants.
The new station includes 28 platforms, 1,365 transport bays, and connectivity to 87 suburban points across 143 locations within a 21 km radius. Facilities include five floors with parking, commercial outlets, drinking water, toilets, a feeding room for infants, ramps for the disabled, a police outpost, a divisional office, a subway connection, as well as lift and escalator services.
Transport, Excise, PWD, Medical Education, Women and Child Development Ministers, along with the Chairman of the North Western Road Transport Corporation and other dignitaries, were present at the inauguration.
