The district POCSO court sentenced six individuals to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court fined them ₹10,000 each on Thursday for their involvement in raping and encouraging the rape of a minor girl.
The convicted are Sachin Babasaheb Rayamane, Rupa Babasaheb Mane, and Rakesh Babasaheb Rayamane from Nasalapur in Raibag taluk, Rohini Srimantha Dikshita from Galataga in Chikkodi taluk, Vinod Suresh Rayamane from Kuppawad in Meeraj taluk of Sangli district, Maharashtra, and Vijaya Tanaji Salunke.
On June 21, 2015, the main accused, Sachin Rayamane, took the girl to a shed in a village in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, where he harassed her. The other accused were found to have encouraged his actions and kept the girl from leaving the shed. Rayamane also threatened her father, demanding ₹3 lakh for her return.
After the father lodged a complaint, Chikkodi investigating officer MS Naikkar submitted the charge sheet. Judge CM Pushpalatha delivered the verdict after the charges were proven. The court also directed the victim’s father to pursue compensation through the district legal authority. Special Public Prosecutor LV Patil represented the government.
