An audacious attempted robbery occurred at a gold shop in Belgaum during the early hours of Monday on the bustling Shahoonagar main road. Two brazen robbers forcibly entered Santoshi Jewelers, located near the first bus stop on the Shahoonagar-Kangrali main road. The shop’s owner, Prashantha B, had just arrived at the store around 10 a.m., as was his daily routine to inspect and adjust gold and silver ornaments.
In a shocking turn of events, the robbers brandished a revolver and struck Prashantha on the back of his head with it. However, despite the violent assault, Prashantha displayed remarkable courage and engaged in a physical altercation with both intruders. Taken aback by his resistance, the would-be thieves hastily lifted the shop’s shutter and fled. Prashantha, injured in the incident, was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
City Police Commissioner Sidramappa, along with ACP Narayana Bharamani, promptly visited the scene of the attempted robbery. A team of fingerprint experts and a dog squad were deployed to gather essential evidence.
Commissioner Sidramappa noted that the incident occurred on a Monday morning when a police parade was taking place nearby, resulting in reduced police presence and fewer onlookers in the vicinity. The assailants seemed to have taken advantage of this opportune moment to carry out their attempted heist.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Prashantha’s brave resistance also led to an unintended discharge of the revolver, though it miraculously did not explode. The presence of CCTV cameras in the store may provide valuable evidence for the investigation. The authorities expressed confidence in apprehending the suspects swiftly once they gather essential information.
