KSRTC has introduced a new bus service to connect Belgaum Railway Station. Belagavi MP Mangala Suresh Angadi announced this development in a recent Facebook post. This service was initiated following discussions in the Nade Aerodrome Advisory Committee meeting held last month and is synchronized with the flight schedules.
Previously, passengers faced inconvenience as there was no direct bus service between the airport and the railway station. However, the demand for such a service has been met, providing train travelers with a hassle-free way to reach the station on time via the airport bus.
Belgaum Airport, situated approximately 10 km from Belgaum city, offers bus and taxi services for commuting to the city. The city is well-connected by rail, making it a popular choice for many train passengers. In 2022, Belgaum Airport ranked as the third busiest in the state and offers direct flights to various cities, including New Delhi and Bangalore.
Notably, this airport serves not only Karnataka but also sees passengers from Goa and Maharashtra due to its strategic location on the border of these states, resulting in an increased number of travelers.
In recent developments, the Central Government approved a significant upgrade for Belgaum Airport, with the Airports Authority of India initiating a project worth 230 crores. This expansion plan encompasses various improvements such as the expansion of the passenger terminal building, the addition of three aero bridges and aero craft stands, and enhanced vehicle parking. The project is slated for completion within 36 months after commencing work.
Furthermore, Belagavi Airport holds potential for cargo services, benefiting not only passengers but also the numerous small and medium industries in the district. These industries, involved in the production of auto spare parts, hydraulics, and casting products, export their goods to other states and countries. The introduction of cargo services could further boost the airport’s significance in the region.
