Belgaum Airport recently observed Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2023, a crucial initiative dedicated to enhancing safety measures in the aviation sector. The week-long event, spanning from November 28th to December 1st, 2023, kicked off with an inaugural ceremony featuring the lighting of the lamp and the reading of a significant message.
During the inaugural function, the importance of aviation safety and the individual responsibilities of all involved parties were highlighted. The event witnessed active participation from staff members of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and various stakeholders, emphasizing the collaborative approach to ensuring aviation safety.
As part of the Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2023 celebrations, the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team of AAI demonstrated the operation and usage of firefighting equipment. This hands-on session aimed to equip staff members with essential knowledge on responding to potential fire emergencies within the airport premises.
A presentation on the “Basics of Safety Management System and Common Safety Errors/Lapses and Measures to Minimize the Same” was conducted by the safety manager. This session delved into crucial aspects of safety management and offered insights into preventing common errors.
Workshops on “Safety Management System” were organized, providing a platform for staff members of AAI and stakeholders to actively engage in discussions and activities related to aviation safety.
A quiz program focusing on aviation safety was conducted at Belgaum Airport, encouraging participants to test their knowledge and understanding of safety protocols. Staff members from AAI and all stakeholders enthusiastically participated in this educational and engaging activity.
The Operations team of AAI contributed to the awareness week by presenting on apron safety and discipline. This session aimed to reinforce the importance of adhering to safety procedures in the operational areas of the airport.
Additionally, a refresher training on contingency situations was organized for Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs), ensuring that they are well-prepared to handle unforeseen circumstances. Discussions on the disabled aircraft removal plan were held, further enhancing the airport’s readiness for potential challenges.
In a comprehensive approach, first aid methods and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstrations were conducted by doctors at Belgaum Airport. This practical session equipped staff members with life-saving skills and underlined the significance of prompt and effective responses during emergencies.
