A Belagavi-based initiative is making national headlines today. Energy In Motion (EIM), promoted by Ravindra Energy Ltd. of Belagavi, has inaugurated India’s first public battery swapping-cum-charging station for heavy commercial electric vehicles at the Delhi International Cargo Terminal (DICT) in Sonipat, Haryana.
The landmark launch was graced by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari as Chief Guest, with Union Steel Minister Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy attending as Guest of Honour.
Belagavi’s Innovation Goes National
EIM’s Managing Director, Narendra Murkumbi, a native of Belagavi and part of the Murkumbi family behind Ravindra Energy, is the driving force behind the venture. Both Ravindra Energy Ltd. and Energy In Motion Pvt. Ltd. are headquartered in Belagavi, rooting this national milestone firmly in Karnataka soil.
This development not only marks a major step for India’s EV ecosystem but also celebrates Belagavi’s growing footprint in the nation’s clean energy and transport transition.
EIM’s Mission and Model
Energy In Motion is developing a comprehensive ecosystem for heavy commercial electric vehicles through:
- Battery Swapping + Charging Stations: allowing trucks to replace battery packs within minutes, minimizing downtime.
- Heavy Electric Trucks: built in collaboration with global partners like Foton.
- Flexible Finance Models: offering battery leasing and pay-per-use systems to reduce capital costs.
- Green Energy Integration: leveraging Ravindra Energy’s renewable assets for sustainable charging.
- Complete Service Support: delivering maintenance and lifecycle assistance for fleet operators.
Though heavy trucks make up a small share of vehicles on Indian roads, they produce a significant portion of emissions. EIM’s automated battery swap system, completing in about five minutes, tackles both range anxiety and operational delays for fleet owners.
Belagavi on India’s Clean Energy Map
With Ravindra Energy and EIM both rooted in Belagavi, the city is emerging as a clean mobility hub. Observers note that the Murkumbi family’s initiatives could attract investment, create employment, and position Belagavi as a vital link in India’s renewable mobility chain.
The Road Ahead
EIM plans to establish 22 battery swap stations across India by 2025, targeting key logistics corridors and sectors like cement, steel, and mining in its next phase. The Sonipat launch is the first milestone in this ambitious rollout.
