A 57-year-old man sustained serious burn injuries after his wife allegedly poured boiling oil on him in Machche, under the jurisdiction of Belagavi Rural Police Station, Karnataka. The incident reportedly stemmed from her suspicion of an extramarital affair.
The victim, identified as Subhash Hanamanthagouda Patil, was attacked by his wife, Vaishali Subhash Patil. Police said the couple had been arguing frequently in recent months due to Vaishali’s doubts about her husband’s fidelity.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. on October 6, when Subhash was seated in the courtyard of their home. During an argument over installing a CCTV camera, Vaishali allegedly shouted, “I will finish you today!” before bringing boiling oil from the kitchen—reportedly prepared while frying snacks—and pouring it over him.
Subhash suffered burns on his face, chest, abdomen, arms, and thighs and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The couple has three daughters, two of whom are married.
Belagavi Rural Police have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC. Preliminary investigations suggest marital discord and suspicion of infidelity as the motive behind the assault.
