The appearance of a donkey-like creature in the Belagavi district has sparked fear among residents. Locals have appealed to the forest department to take action and capture the animal.
Typically seen in dry regions, jackals and hyenas are now being spotted in the forests of the Western Ghats and nearby villages. While hyenas have been seen across the Belagavi district over the past two years without causing harm, their presence continues to alarm villagers and disrupt their peace.
Growing concern over donkey-like predator
Recently sighted in Athani, Belgaum, and Khanapur, the animal has now been seen near Chinchani village in Chikkodi. Though usually found in arid zones, reports suggest their population has declined in recent years due to poaching.
Villagers demand capture of ‘donkey thief’
A donkey-like animal is roaming farmlands in Chinchani village, leaving locals both surprised and fearful. The unusual sighting has led villagers to urge the forest department to act swiftly and capture the animal before any untoward incident occurs. A local resident even managed to record the creature on a mobile phone.
Alarmed by the sighting, villagers promptly alerted forest officials and requested the hyena be safely relocated back to the forest.
