Club Road in Belagavi city is set to be renamed in honour of senior Congress leader and former Union minister, the late B. Shankaranand. The official naming ceremony will take place on Saturday, organised by the B. Shankaranand Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, chaired by his son, Pradeep Kanagali.
B. Shankaranand represented the Chikodi Lok Sabha constituency for multiple terms and held several key Union cabinet portfolios over two decades. In recognition of his service to the region and the country, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) had unanimously passed a resolution in 2024 to rename Club Road after him.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Pradeep Kanagali also announced that the foundation stone for a statue of B. Shankaranand will be laid at the Club Road Circle, situated in front of the late leader’s residence.
The event will be led by Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara and attended by Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi. Other notable guests include KLES Chairman Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Karnataka’s Delhi Representative Prakash Hukkeri, MPs Jagadish Shettar and Priyanka Jarkiholi, former MP Ramesh Katti, and former MLA Firoz Sait.
Local representatives, including MLAs Abhay Patil and Asif Sait, Mayor Mangesh Pawar, and Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, will also be honoured during the event.
