Belagavi is set to benefit from a significant upgrade in healthcare as a 100-bed, state-of-the-art ESI hospital has been approved, with a Rs 152 crore tender announced for its construction. This new facility will replace the existing outdated hospital, offering enhanced medical services to the area’s large workforce. Union Minister of State for Labor and Industries, Shobha Karandlaje, assured that a modern healthcare center will soon address the current facility’s limitations.
During her visit to the ESI Hospital in Ashoknagar, Karandlaje inspected various sections, including the OPD, pharmacy, and doctors’ chambers. She was accompanied by MP Iranna Kadadi, MLA Abhay Patil, former MLA Anil Benke, and Superintendent Mahantesh Kalsannavar, as they discussed the hospital’s pressing requirements with officials.
The current ESI hospital, situated on just 3.5 acres, may be relocated closer to the industrial estate to serve the local workforce better. Local MLAs put forward this proposal, which is now under review in Delhi.
Karandlaje underscored Belagavi’s industrial importance, noting the presence of large industries and a workforce exceeding 3.5 lakh, including many from Karnataka’s border areas with Maharashtra. The new hospital, with double the current bed capacity, aims to meet the rising healthcare needs of workers.
Currently, the facility offers only basic outpatient services, with patients referred elsewhere for specialized care due to a lack of specialists. Karandlaje emphasized the need to integrate ESI and Ayushman cards to ensure broader access to treatments at designated hospitals, improving healthcare delivery for ESI beneficiaries.
This project marks a crucial step toward better healthcare for the region’s workers, promising modern facilities, improved specialist care, and comprehensive services for employees and their families.
