A 16-year-old boy from Belagavi has become the heart of an extraordinary medical achievement at SPARSH Hospital, Bengaluru. His family’s courageous decision to donate his liver facilitated a life-saving transplant for a 63-year-old patient who had been waiting for a donor for over a year.
The liver was retrieved at KLE Hospital, Belagavi, and transported to SPARSH Hospital through a meticulously executed plan. The organ departed KLE Hospital at 6:30 AM, reached Hubballi Airport by 7:40 AM, and arrived in Bengaluru by 9:35 AM, aided by a green corridor and prompt support from Indigo Airlines.
SPARSH Hospital’s expert team successfully performed the transplant at its Yeshwanthpur facility, marking a significant achievement in the hospital’s organ transplant program.
Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Chairman and Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at SPARSH Hospitals, praised the collective effort behind the procedure. “This success highlights the power of teamwork. The donor’s family’s extraordinary generosity, along with seamless coordination between SOTTO, the police, and the airlines, made this life-saving surgery possible. At SPARSH, we remain committed to bringing hope through such groundbreaking procedures,” he said.
The Belagavi boy’s story has resonated deeply across Karnataka, emphasizing the urgent need for greater awareness about organ donation. The family’s altruistic decision not only saved a life but also showcased the profound impact of compassion and humanity.
