Belagavi Smart City Ltd. (BSCL) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to hire an agency to conduct environmental and social assessment studies as part of the CITIIS 2.0 program. The chosen consultant will assess the city’s solid waste management system, measure waste generation, and secure the required environmental clearances.
The study will provide vital information on the composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) across households, businesses, and institutions. It will also evaluate the environmental and social impacts to ensure sustainable waste management solutions specific to Belagavi’s requirements.
The Belagavi City Corporation, which is responsible for infrastructure and sanitation, is a key partner in this project. The initiative aligns with India’s climate goals under COP26, promoting eco-friendly urban development through data-driven planning.
The assessment will involve a waste characterization and quantification study, identifying waste categories such as organic, recyclable, hazardous, and debris. The results will inform integrated waste management strategies under CITIIS 2.0, a program supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), KfW Development Bank, and the European Union.
With an estimated population of 7.12 lakh and 2.28 lakh households by 2025, Belagavi’s expanding urbanization calls for effective waste management strategies. The RFQ represents a crucial step toward creating a cleaner and more sustainable city.
