A 23-year-old truck driver, Azim Mallikrehman Ipperi from Sankeshwar, died on Monday in Belagavi after being assaulted by a group of individuals over erratic driving. Two other individuals who were injured in the incident are currently receiving medical treatment.
Ipperi was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital in Belagavi after suffering severe injuries.
The attackers have been identified as 32-year-old Parasappa Satyappa Naik, 32-year-old Halappa Laxman Halyagol, 34-year-old Irappa Basavanni Naik, 30-year-old Hanumant Vitthal Idli, and 36-year-old Amit Deepak Shinde. All the suspects have been arrested.
According to police, the incident began as a case of road rage. The victim’s truck allegedly brushed against a two-wheeler near Benkoli in Belagavi, but the driver did not stop. Enraged by this, the group chased the truck, forced it to stop, and then pulled out the driver and two others, assaulting them. Despite the altercation, the bike did not sustain significant damage.
The assault occurred near Katabali village, about two kilometers from where the truck was initially stopped.
A case has been filed at the Yamakanmardi Police Station, and a team led by Inspector Javed Mushapuri is investigating the matter.
