The process of acquiring land for the proposed ring road around Belagavi city is almost complete, Guardian Minister Satish Jarkiholi has said. He stated that the Central Government has been informed and urged to initiate construction through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at the earliest.

The minister said land acquisition has been finalised in several villages, and most of the required land has already been handed over to the NHAI. However, the project has not moved forward as the Central Government is yet to invite tenders for the work.

“Land acquisition is in the final phase and the land has been transferred to the NHAI. The Centre must now float tenders and start construction immediately. Farmers have also been advised not to undertake agricultural activities on the acquired land,” Jarkiholi said.

The ring road project was conceived in 2018–19 as a joint initiative of the State and Central governments. The proposed circular road, spanning 69.42 km, was estimated to cost over ₹1,300 crore. Delays in land acquisition and technical issues pushed the project back by nearly four years.

About 1,248 acres of land across 32 villages in Belagavi taluka have been acquired so far. Nearly 90% of the acquisition process has been completed, while the remaining cases are currently pending before courts. Officials from the Revenue and Land Acquisition Department said these matters are likely to be resolved soon. Some farmers, whose one to two acres of land were acquired, have sought alternative fertile land as compensation.

The ring road alignment passes through villages such as Kondankoppa, Kamkarhatti, Dhamane, Yarmal, Yellur, Sulaga, Zadshapur, Waghwade, Santibastwad, Rankundye, Khadarwadi, Navage, Bijgarni, Belgundi, Bachi, Turmuri, Uchgaon, Gojga, Mannur, Agasga, Ambewadi, Kadoli, Honga and Mutga.

Once completed, the four-lane ring road will link National Highway 48 (Bengaluru–Pune) and National Highway 748 (Belagavi–Khanapur) before entering the city. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Goa, Belagavi and Hyderabad by connecting with the proposed Belagavi–Hubballi–Raichur corridor under the Bharatmala scheme.
