The five individuals injured when a group of miscreants attacked participants during the Rajyotsava procession on Saturday have been discharged from the hospital after recovering. The assault, reportedly linked to personal enmity, involved knives and machetes. Police said efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
Amid a surge in stabbing incidents across Belagavi, police have stepped up night patrols and random checks, resulting in several arrests of individuals carrying deadly weapons. On November 1, Market Police apprehended two suspects, Nagaraj Basavanni Naik (27) of Durgadevi Galli and Nagaraj Basavaraj Jangali (30) of Karnataka Colony, Mastamardi, and seized 20 sharp knives from their possession.
The following day, ASI S. N. Menasinkai intercepted two others, Sohel Sardarsab Mokashi (25) of Muchhandi (now residing in Mahantesh Nagar) and Bhushan Nagendra Patil (21) of Jadhav Nagar, near the Forest Office. Both were found carrying dragon knives with plastic handles.
In total, five people were arrested over the weekend for possessing deadly weapons in separate incidents under Market and Malmaruti police station limits. PSI Hussain Kerur and his team nabbed four accused in two cases under Market Police Station. At the same time, PSI P. M. Mohite of Malmaruti Police Station apprehended one more person, Sridhar Irappa Shigihalli of Kanabargi, who was found carrying a sharp steel javelin. Three weapons, including knives and a javelin, were seized. Police Commissioner and DCP commended the teams for their swift action.
