Maya, a member of the Belagavi District Police Dog Squad, has claimed the top position in Karnataka for her exceptional skill in detecting explosives. Rosie, from the Belagavi City Police Squad, earned second place statewide for her exemplary work in solving criminal cases.
The state-level Police Duty Meet took place in Bengaluru on November 20 and 21, with participation from police teams and canine squads across Karnataka. Maya secured first place in the explosives detection category, while Rosie excelled in criminal investigations to earn the second spot.
Malkari Yamgar and Manjunath Kasavannavar handle Maya, while Rosie works under the guidance of Rudrayya Mavinakattimath and Santosh Patil. Each dog is trained to respond exclusively to their designated handlers. Both dogs showcased their skills during the event, representing Belagavi with their handlers.
The Belagavi North Division achieved significant success at the meet, winning a total of eight medals, including two golds, four silvers, and two bronzes. A total of 328 officers and 57 dogs from districts such as Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, and others participated.
Maya and Rosie’s accomplishments reflect rigorous training and supervision. District Police Chief Dr. Bhimashankar Guled directs Maya’s training, while Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbaniang guides Rosie.
