The Belagavi City Police Commissionerate has destroyed narcotic substances worth over ₹36.48 lakh, marking a significant step in its drive against the illegal drug trade.
Under ongoing enforcement of the NDPS Act, city police stations had registered 36 cases, seizing a total of 103 kg, 809 g, and 18 mg of narcotics, including ganja, charas, and methamphetamine.
The seized substances were scientifically disposed of at Belgaum Green Environment Management Pvt. Ltd. in Harugoppa village, Belagavi district. The process was carried out under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee, headed by senior police officials, with the support of Deputy Commissioners of Crime and Traffic, CCRB officials, and representatives of regulatory departments.
Authorities from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, the Deputy Drug Control Office and the Deputy Director of the Factories Department were also present, ensuring the disposal met all environmental safety standards.
Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to tackling drug networks and urged the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities. They said the destruction not only prevents the substances from re-entering circulation but also reinforces the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics.
