In light of rising communal tensions, Belagavi police have intensified action against those spreading hateful content, especially during the holy month of Ramazan. Authorities are keeping a close watch on repeat offenders who attempt to disrupt communal harmony through provocative posts on social media.
Recently, city police paraded over 220 individuals involved in communal offences and drug-related activities across 13 police station limits. In a separate case, Market Police arrested a 19-year-old from Bhadakal Galli for sharing objectionable content on Instagram. An FIR has been filed against him.
City Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang urged the public to act responsibly on social media. “Posts or comments that incite hate or create division on the basis of religion, caste, language, or any such grounds will invite strict legal action. People should think before they post, as such actions can disrupt the city’s peace,” he stated in an official release.
