The government has confirmed that the winter session of the State Legislature will be held at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi from December 9 to December 20. Assembly Speaker UT Khadar and Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti recently visited the venue to review the preparations for the upcoming session.
Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan announced on Tuesday that extensive arrangements are underway, including the deployment of 6,000 police officers to ensure security and smooth operations. Various committees have been formed to manage transportation, lodging, catering, and the maintenance of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
A total of 85 hotels, resorts, lodges, and guesthouses in and around Belagavi, offering around 2,500 rooms, have been reserved for the session. No new bookings will be accepted during this period, and existing reservations from December 9 to December 20 have been canceled. This long-standing practice has often created accommodation challenges for tourists and other visitors.
Alongside the legislative session, the district administration is preparing for the centenary celebrations of the 1924 Congress Plenary, which was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi. Commemorative events will be held on December 26 and 27, with a year-long series of programs culminating on October 2, 2025.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the Veerasoudha memorial in Tilakwadi, where the historic plenary took place, will be developed and beautified. Additionally, the memorial of freedom fighter Gangadhar Rao Deshpande in Kanabargi, who played a key role in organizing the 1924 session, will also undergo renovation.
