Landowners who gave up their land for Belagavi Urban Development Authority’s (BUDA) Residential Project Scheme No. 61 in Kanabaragi have launched an indefinite strike, demanding that the foundation stone be laid during the upcoming winter session. Despite a 50:50 land-sharing agreement signed in 2007, the project has remained stalled due to legal and technical challenges, leaving farmers without income while real estate prices in the region continue to surge.
Frustrated by the prolonged delay, the landowners have escalated their protests, staging a strike in front of the BUDA office. A memorandum has also been submitted to the Urban Development Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, urging immediate action.
The landowners claim they have been appealing to authorities for years with little to no progress. After waiting for 17 years, their patience has run out, and they are determined to continue the protest until BUDA fulfills its promises. The delay in development has not only deprived farmers of potential earnings but also exacerbated their frustration amid rising land values in Belagavi.
The indefinite strike underscores the landowners’ insistence on a resolution during the winter session of the legislature. Their demands highlight the urgency for BUDA to act and honor the commitments made, ensuring the long-stalled project finally takes off.
