In a key development, the Finance Standing Committee of the Belagavi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday approved a resolution to enable the transfer of residential colonies, markets, bungalows, open spaces, and grounds located in the Cantonment area to the Corporation.
The meeting, presided over by Netravati Bhagwat, saw participation from Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, and other committee members. This marks a departure from the general body’s earlier position, which had only agreed to take over residential colonies, leaving the status of other properties unclear.
The ambiguity regarding the inclusion of markets, bungalows, and public areas was addressed by DC Mohammad Roshan, who elaborated on the state government’s broader decision to hand over all civilian-use zones.
Revenue Deputy Commissioner Reshma Talikoti outlined the current status of the proposal and shared detailed information, which led to a consensus within the committee.
At present, the Belagavi Cantonment Board oversees 1,763 acres.
The resolution clears the way for the full transfer process to move forward, in line with the larger plan to bring parts of the Cantonment under the jurisdiction of the Belagavi Municipal Corporation.
