PWD Minister Satish Jarkhiholi had a productive encounter as he met and honored Union Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari. The focus of their discussions revolved around the vital enhancements required for roads, flyovers, and the construction of bypass roads across the state. Furthermore, they deliberated the approval of significant projects during this auspicious event.
One of the notable projects discussed was the construction of an elevated road in Belagavi, which encompasses the following details:
- The existing NH-48, stretching from Km 492+000 to 516+000, spans a length of 24 kilometers within the city limits of Belagavi.
- Belagavi holds significant importance as a city in the state of Karnataka, with a population of 7.50 lakhs.
- Often referred to as the 2nd Capital of the State, Belagavi plays a crucial role in the region.
- The existing 6-lane road on NH-48 within Belagavi city witnesses heavy traffic intensity, approximately 70,000 PCU (Passenger Car Units), leading to traffic congestion, travel delays, reduced service levels, increased vehicle operation costs, higher accident rates, and heightened pollution levels in the city.
- Hence, a request has been made for the construction of a 4-lane elevated corridor in Belagavi city on NH-48 to facilitate the segregation of through and local traffic.
