Traders in Belagavi selling tobacco products are now required to obtain a dedicated license, as mandated by the City Corporation. This regulation stems from a 2022 Central Government notification requiring specialized permits for tobacco trade.
The application process is open, and the application deadline is February 15. The license fee is ₹500, and forms can be collected from the City Corporation office. Applicants need to submit the following documents:
- A valid trade license issued by the City Corporation.
- Aadhaar cards of the applicant and the premises owner.
- Proof of ownership or tenancy of the shop.
- A recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to regulate tobacco sales and prevent the co-sale of tobacco with other products at the same location. “This measure complies with Central Government regulations, categorizing tobacco as a distinct trade,” officials said.
Failure to secure the license by February 15 will result in legal action. Traders must also maintain a valid business license and a new tobacco permit.
