In a recent meeting with ESIC Medical Superintendent Dr. Manjunath Kalsannawar, members of the Belagavi District Small Scale Industries Association (BDSSIA) and the Belagavi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) emphasized the urgent need to relocate the ESIC Hospital from its current site in Ashok Nagar. The hospital building has been declared unsafe, with inadequate facilities raising concerns for both patients and staff.
The industrial representatives pointed out that the Ashok Nagar facility is not only far from key industrial areas but is also deteriorating, posing significant safety risks to doctors, insured employees (IP holders), and visitors. They stressed, “The building is in such poor condition that it could collapse at any time,” and urged the government to act quickly.
BDSSIA and BCCI proposed relocating the hospital to Udyambag or Machhe, areas closer to the industrial hubs, which would provide easier access and improved safety for the thousands of IP holders working nearby. They emphasized that the move would greatly benefit the city’s industrial workers.
ESIC officials have acknowledged the concerns, and plans to shift the hospital are expected to move forward soon, ensuring better and safer healthcare facilities for both employees and medical personnel.
