A complaint filed on the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) has highlighted the worsening condition of several roads within the Belagavi Cantonment limits.
The grievance, submitted by Anant Patil on September 30, 2025, stated that once well-maintained stretches such as Nolan Road (near Military Mahadev Temple), Havelock Road, portions of Gen. Thimayya Road, Cattle Road, and Rakaskop Road (from Shaurya Circle to Union Gymkhana) have deteriorated significantly. Patil added that even minor patchwork repairs have not been undertaken, further damaging the existing surface.
He also alleged that the L&T 24×7 Water Supply Project had dug up several cantonment roads during pipeline work but failed to restore them despite multiple reminders.
Responding to the grievance, the Directorate General, Defence Estates (DGDE) admitted to the issue but stated that the Belagavi Cantonment Board is currently unable to take up road recarpeting due to a shortage of funds. It added that stretches such as High Street, Cattle Road, and Havelock Road were dug up for L&T’s work and remain unrestored. The board has requested L&T to carry out necessary repairs.
The DGDE further noted that the Belagavi North MLA and the Garrison Engineer (MES) have been approached for assistance. Meanwhile, the Cantonment Board claims to be taking temporary measures like filling potholes “as and when required.”
Although the grievance was officially closed on October 17, 2025, residents say they continue to struggle with damaged roads and are urging authorities to act before conditions worsen further.
