Construction of the new integrated terminal building at Belagavi Airport (IXG) has achieved 71.5% physical progress, with an expenditure of ₹158.27 crore to date, according to information shared by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in the Rajya Sabha.
In a written response to an unstarred question by Shri Iranna Kadadi, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is implementing the terminal project along with related infrastructure works.
The upcoming terminal is planned to handle 3.5 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and is scheduled for completion by the end of April 2026, followed by nearly a month for operational readiness. However, the Ministry noted that timelines may change due to factors such as land acquisition, statutory approvals, and other procedural requirements.
Regarding runway expansion, the Ministry said there is currently no proposal to extend the runway to accommodate wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A321 or Boeing 737 for international operations. Currently, Belagavi Airport operates as a domestic facility, handling A320-type aircraft.
The Ministry further clarified that the Belagavi–Pune, Belagavi–Chennai, and Belagavi–Mangaluru routes were excluded from UDAN 5.0, as these airports are already categorized as “served airports” and are therefore ineligible under the Regional Connectivity Scheme.
