A delegation of BJP leaders from Kittur Karnataka met Union Ministers in New Delhi on Thursday, urging them to rename Belagavi Airport as Rani Channamma Airport. They proposed the renaming and the issuance of a postal stamp to honor Channamma on the bicentenary of the Kittur Victory.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Union Transport Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, requesting the release of a stamp marking the historic event. They also met Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, pressing him to name the airport after Channamma. Additionally, they appealed for the continuation of the Belagavi-Bengaluru flight, which is at risk due to the lease expiration, as Indigo may discontinue the service from October 27.
The leaders further met Union Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav of the Ayush Department, inviting him to attend the 85th birth anniversary of Dr. Shivanand Bharati Swamiji on December 29 at Inchal, Bailhongal taluk. They also invited him to the golden jubilee celebrations of the Ayurvedic Medical College under the Shivanand Bharati Educational Institution.
In a separate meeting with Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, the delegation sought the construction of an indoor stadium at Chandaragi Sports Residential School in Ramdurg taluk under the sports infrastructure scheme.
The delegation included Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi, MLA Arvind Bellad, Abhay Patil, former MP Annasaheb Jolle, former MLA Mahantesh Doddagoudar, and other leaders, including Vishwanath Patil, Dr. Ravi Patil, and Mallanna Yadwad.
