Belagavi Airport at Sambra and an Alliance Air flight from Bengaluru to Vidyanagar township in Ballari district were subjected to bomb threats on Sunday, which ultimately turned out to be hoaxes.
The situation unfolded when airport director S. Thiagarajan received an email warning of a bomb threat, prompting police to rush to the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rohan Jagadeesh confirmed that the email was indeed a hoax. “The entire airport was thoroughly searched, and nothing was found. The email has been confirmed as false, and we are currently investigating the source,” the DCP stated.
A police officer noted that the internet protocol address indicated the email originated from Chennai.
In related news, sources from Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), which manages Kempegowda International Airport, revealed that flight 9I 527 received a non-specific bomb threat. “There was a post on X (formerly Twitter) regarding bomb threats to 29 aircraft nationwide, including Alliance Air flight 9I 527 from Bengaluru to Vidyanagar,” BIAL sources reported.
They added that due to the non-specific nature of the threat, the aircraft was not isolated, and passengers and their luggage were not subjected to additional checks. The flight subsequently departed for Vidyanagar and landed safely, according to officials.
