The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has decided to rename Club Road as Shankaranand Marg in honor of the late B. Shankaranand, a notable leader, represented the Chikkodi Lok Sabha constituency seven times. The resolution was passed during a BCC meeting on Thursday, ahead of the leader’s birth centenary celebrations next year.
MLA Abhay Patil emphasized Shankaranand’s immense contributions to the state and the nation, both as an MP and Union minister, pointing out that he had resided on Club Road in Belagavi. “Naming the road after him is a meaningful way to honor his legacy,” he said.
The proposal gained unanimous support, with Congress members, including MLA Asif Raju Sait, and corporators Sandeep Jirgyal and Ramesh Sontakki, backing the move.
According to BCC officials, the proposal will undergo review before being officially submitted for government approval.
