An anonymous letter has brought a fresh twist to the death of Rudresh Yadavannavar, a second division assistant (SDC) in the Belagavi tahsildar’s office. The letter accuses the driver of Basavaraj Nagaral of being involved in what it calls the “murder” of Yadavannavar.
Two weeks ago, Yadavannavar’s death was ruled a suicide by the Belagavi police. According to their preliminary investigation, he reportedly hanged himself in the tahsildar’s office chamber on November 4 after having dinner. The police stated it was a clear case of suicide with no signs of foul play.
However, the anonymous letter—allegedly sent to the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner, Regional Commissioner, Governor, and Human Rights Commission—challenges the suicide theory, alleging that Yadavannavar was murdered. It urges the police to interrogate Nagaral, the main accused in the ongoing case registered at Khadebazaar police station.
Yadavannavar’s mother, Mallavva Yadavannavar, has refuted the suicide claim, stating her son was not someone who would take his own life. She alleged a conspiracy and criticized the police for withholding details from the family. She has called on authorities to deliver justice.
Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang responded by saying he was unaware of the anonymous letter but assured that the case is being taken seriously.
