In MK Hubballi, the Malaprabha Cooperative Sugar Factory, chaired by Legislative Council member Channaraj Hattiholi, has set a target to crush about 4 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane this season and achieve an 11.50 % recovery. The factory reported crushing 2.31 lakh tonnes with an 11.34 % recovery in the previous season and says it has settled all farmer bills as mandated by the government.
To ease cutting and transport for growers within roughly a 20 km radius, the mill has advanced about ₹16 crore and organized 232 cane‑cutting teams.
Shareholders and farmers were urged to supply larger volumes of good‑quality cane to the Malaprabha plant.
Hattiholi alleged that former Kittur MLA Mahantesh Doddigouda and Khanapur’s Arvind Patil are obstructing the factory’s development. He said the mill initially sought a ₹55 crore loan from Biddisi Bank but, after resistance, secured a ₹40 crore loan from Anna Sahib Jolle’s bank.
He clarified that Kittur MLA Babasaheb Patil is also contesting the matter, but Hattiholi is not an aspirant. The board of directors present included Shankreppa Holi, Ramanagouda Patil, Suresh Hulikatti, Shivaputrappa Maradi, Raghu Patil, Lalitha Patil, Sunita Patil, Bharamappa Shigihalli, Balappa Poojar and office superintendent S.G. Hegade.
