A 50-year-old female civic worker, Avakka Kolakkara, died on the spot after being run over by a speeding tipper on Khanapura Road in Belagavi in the early hours of the morning. The driver fled the scene, and police have launched an investigation.
The incident occurred in the Kundanagari area, where the victim had reported for her routine sanitation duty. A tipper lorry, allegedly moving at high speed, struck her, leading to her death on the spot.
In a separate account, the tipper is said to have hit the civic worker before the driver escaped without stopping after the accident.
Former Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi and police officials visited the site soon after the incident and conducted an inspection. The victim’s family members are in shock.
A case has been registered at the South Traffic Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver.
