A young girl riding on a bike sustained severe head injuries and died while being taken to the hospital after a cement mixer truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the bike on the Upparahatti–Maladinni road in the taluk last Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as 10-year-old Pratiksha Ramappa Bandi.
Based on a complaint lodged by Ramappa Pundalikappa Bandi of Maladinni village, a case has been registered at the Gokak Rural Police Station against the unidentified driver, who fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle. Police have launched an investigation.
