A man is suspected of killing his 14-day-old daughter by allegedly administering poison in Ukkad village of Belagavi taluk on Tuesday.
Sheela stated that she had married Bhimrai Chipade about a year ago, and their daughter was born just 14 days ago. Since the delivery, Bhimrai was reportedly unhappy about the child being a girl and had been insisting that she return to her maternal home.
According to her, Bhimrai visited her around noon. After she breastfed the infant, both mother and child were resting. Shortly later, she noticed the baby vomiting froth with a pesticide-like smell. The infant was rushed to the District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, she said.
Sheela’s maternal family members have also accused Bhimrai of administering pesticide to the infant.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Kakati police station. Senior police officials visited the District Hospital and gathered details regarding the case.
