More than 10.2 lakh workers from the unorganised sector in Belagavi district have registered on the e-Shram portal, allowing them to access several welfare schemes of the Central government, Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi said.
In a statement, Kadadi said the information was shared in a written reply by Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje during the ongoing budget session of Parliament in New Delhi. The response was given to a question regarding the development and social security of unorganised workers in Belagavi district.
Emphasising the Centre’s focus on labour welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kadadi said the e-Shram initiative has helped bring a large number of unorganised workers under the social security network.
As per the data presented in Parliament, many registered workers in the district are already benefiting from government schemes. Under Ayushman Bharat, 3,77,920 beneficiaries have been covered, while 2,72,136 people received benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) – Gramin. Additionally, 1,58,333 workers enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and 73,381 beneficiaries were linked to the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme.
Kadadi said the government has prioritised recognising and supporting workers such as construction labourers, sugarcane harvesters and domestic workers. Through the e-Shram portal, they are not only receiving social and financial protection but are also being connected to skill development programmes under Skill India and employment opportunities through the National Career Service platform.
He added that the initiative aims to strengthen the social security framework for unorganised workers and ensure that more labourers benefit from government welfare schemes.
