Ahead of the upcoming winter session of the Karnataka Legislature at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, MP Jagadish Shettar has directed officials to ensure that all major roads in Belagavi are repaired promptly and city cleanliness is maintained.
Chairing a detailed review meeting on Smart City works and the Saudatti Yallamma Temple development on Wednesday, Shettar expressed displeasure over delays and gaps in several ongoing civic projects.
₹990-crore Smart City Mission: Four works pending
Smart City Managing Director Shubha B. stated that of the 108 projects funded under the ₹990-crore Smart City Mission, work worth ₹931 crore has been completed, while four projects are still pending. Shettar instructed officials to prioritise their completion.
He also raised concerns about the unfinished Kala Mandir commercial complex in Tilakwadi, pointing out that the newly built shops remain unallotted. Warning that vacant units could deteriorate further, he urged immediate action and asked officials to issue fresh tenders if necessary.
City bus stand and land transfer issues
The MP reviewed the progress of the new city bus stand and the pending transfer of adjacent land from the Cantonment Board to the Belagavi City Corporation. He directed officials to complete the process at the earliest.
Park and lake works under AMRUT scheme
Officials informed that ₹24 crore has been sanctioned under the AMRUT scheme for the rejuvenation of seven parks and lakes. Shettar asked that these projects be sped up.
₹135-crore solid waste management project delayed
Shettar also criticised the lack of movement on the ₹135-crore solid waste management project sanctioned in 2023. He ordered officials to investigate the reasons for the delay and begin work without further setbacks.
Review of Yallamma Temple development
In a separate review, Shettar examined the ₹118-crore Yallamma Temple Development Project. Tourism Department officials said the project has been approved and the tender documents are under scrutiny. After speaking with the Joint Commissioner of Tourism, Shettar called for immediate approval so the tendering process can proceed.
The meeting was attended by Development Authority Secretary Ashok Dudgunti, Board Commissioner Geeta Kaulgi, Deputy Director of Tourism Badiger, and other officials.
Halga STP project and compensation
Shettar also reviewed the Halga Sewage Treatment Plant project, raising concerns about delays and compensation issues with landowners. Managing Director Shubha B. informed that the revised compensation file has been cleared by the Cabinet and payments will be released shortly.
