Heavy rains in Belagavi district and water discharge from Maharashtra turned a hamlet in Hulagabal village near Athani into an island, leaving about 100 residents from 40 families stranded. Among them are a pregnant woman and a bedridden elderly person. Their plight came to light when locals raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to alert the police. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed from Athani to carry out rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the Belagavi district administration is closely monitoring the flood situation along the Krishna River and its tributaries in Chikkodi and Nippani taluks. Dozens of families have already been shifted to safer areas as agricultural lands and several temples and dargahs remain submerged. The Datta Mandir near the Kallola-Yadoor bridge in Chikkodi taluk is also underwater.
More than ten bridges across the Krishna, Dudhganga, and Vedganga rivers in the Chikkodi subdivision have been rendered inaccessible, causing traffic disruptions. With continuous inflows from the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and tributaries such as the Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Doni, and Hirehalla joining the Krishna, authorities remain on high alert. District Collector Mohammad Roshan, Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde, and other senior officials are supervising the situation.
